We need your help! Yarn bombing the DC-3 is going to be a huge project and we could really use some help, either by contributing to the project by knitting or crocheting part of the yarn bomb, or by donating crochet hooks or previously loved blankets. Once the project is complete, blankets will be donated to local charities and shelters. This project is open to everyone to participate locally, nationally and internationally.
Sit and Knit – We are looking for knitters and crocheters of all skill levels to participate in our Knitting for History project by donating knitted/crocheted cloth to be a part of the plane cozy. The pattern consists of 4 x 6 foot blankets knitted or crocheted in any style or gauge of yarn. For more detailed information on the pattern, please check out this page. You can knit or crochet as much or as little of the pattern you like; any and all donations are welcome.
Donate Yarn Bombs or Blankets – We’re going to need a lot of yarn and a lot of crochet hooks and knitting needles to get this project done. We are asking the public to donate yarn bombs or unwanted blankets made of acrylic yarn.
To arrange donations please contact us. Local drop off boxes will be set up soon. Items can be mailed to the Yukon Arts Centre, 300 College Drive, Whitehorse, YT, Y1A 5X9. Thank you!
Once the project is complete, blankets will be donated to local charities and shelters.
DEADLINE: All knitted/crochet items need to be sent to us by July 20, 20112. We will begin to sew the cozy together from July 23 to August 10. The yarn bomb will be installed on the DC-3 August 11, weather permitting. It will be taken off the DC-3 by August 28th.
